Playing LEGO 2K Drive

You may enjoy playing LEGO 2K Drive, but it may not be a game you desire to pick up without a controller in your hands. It offers a lot to love and stands out as one of the most family-friendly games, but despite having a plethora of content, it feels somewhat empty.

LEGO 2K Drive

The creators are actively working on a season pass to expand and refine the foundations of LEGO 2K Drive. They are committed to adding more features and enhancing the game in the upcoming months. However, at present, it lacks the essential LEGO characteristics. The passion invested in its development is evident, but it needs to evolve to meet the high expectations of many gamers.

Winning a race rewards you with various goodies, such as a new car and cash that you can spend on cosmetic enhancements. The game features an extensive shop filled with cars, minifigs, and accessories. Additionally, if you’re eager to receive in-game tokens, you have the option to exchange real money for them.

LEGO 2K Drive Worlds

LEGO 2K Drive offers numerous loveable aspects. Its impressive car creation suite holds immense potential. The game provides a unique but well-balanced combination of racing and platforming. The racing experience itself is robust, and the visuals are smooth, vibrant, and filled with joy. True to its promises, the game offers an abundance of activities to engage in.

In between races, LEGO 2K Drive presents players with an open world to leisurely explore. Initially, this feature is immensely enjoyable. The car automatically transforms and adjusts to different surfaces, giving it a platformer-like feel. Nailing jumps over hills and maneuvering through obstacles feels intuitive. Accomplishing challenging feats, such as obtaining hard-to-reach items or bypassing extensive detours by scaling a cliff face, is immensely satisfying.

The worlds in LEGO 2K Drive aren’t huge, but they genuinely hold beauty. Big Butte County showcases a desert landscape with looming sandstone buttes, farms “featuring Lego cows, pigs, and horses”, and quaint towns. Prospecto-Valley represents a mining region with cowboy towns surrounded by woodlands. However, my favorite world is Hauntsborough, a spooky theme park filled with giant spiders, creepy castles, and dark, ominous tunnels. It’s disappointing that we didn’t encounter more landscapes like this, embracing the fantasy element of the Lego universe.

LEGO 2K Drive review

LEGO 2K Drive on Xbox Series X

From the moment you install it, LEGO 2K Drive presents all the hallmarks of a good game. The first shock comes when you realize how small it is – LEGO 2K Drive measures just 9.3GB on Xbox Series X.

Lego 2K Drive offers a strong foundation for what is likely to become a growing series. It encompasses all the elements expected from an open-world racer and captures the enchantment of Lego that appeals to children of all ages. However, it falls short in terms of the clever dialogue found in the Lego Star Wars games and the sophisticated visual humor they offer. While the landscapes are enjoyable to explore, they lack the surprising discoveries found in the world of Lego City Undercover.

The challenges in LEGO 2K Drive come at a rapid pace, to the point where they start to blend, and you may find yourself avoiding them until necessary for progression. If you choose to focus on the main storyline, you will need to complete a few challenges to unlock the next set of races. This marks the first instance in the game where progress is not solely determined by racing, and you are compelled to grind your way up to level 20.

Kids will find themselves smiling while playing the open-world racer, as the beautiful environments are filled to the brim with delightfully destructible Lego goodies.

Visual Concepts/2K Games have made Lego 2K Drive available on various platforms including Windows PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
