As it is the most widely installed Android custom ROM now offers all the features that android audio brings to the table. What is Lineage or what basically is CyanogenMod?
The CyanogenMod [Lineage OS] is one of the best known custom Roms out there, enabling millions of users around the world to custom their devices. CyanogenMod is so popular that the people behind CyanogenMod started cyanogen inc & developed partnerships with phone manufacturers that have CyanogenMod as the default OS.
But what exactly is a custom Rom?
Google releases the source code for Android via the Android open source project. As this project allows anyone to download the source code for stock Android & later modify to their liking. Many developers try & further optimize the Operating system to improve performance. When people talk about flashing Roms, they are referring to overwriting the old version of Android that is installed & replacing it with a third party alternative like the CyanogenMod.
The term Rom is not necessarily used correctly while talking about the 3rd party custom firmware. The smartphones & tablets use flash memory to store the Android operating system. The CyanogenMod started out as a simple alternative to stock Android on the HTC dream & HTC magic devices. With the initial release of the CyanogenMod 3.1 with Android open source ability to obtain the root access. So anything is possible with the popularity of custom Roms.
