How to know whether it is an Original / Refurbished iPhone

How to check whether the iPhone is original or refurbished

1. iPhone Appearance

iPhone has unique visible features on its body from which you can identify whether its an original iPhone or not. Here are some physical features that you should check out.

  • Does it have a home button just below the screen?
  • Does it have a power button on the top right of the body?
  • Apple logo is present at the back of the device. And the volume button on the left side of the body.

If all of these points are present then it may be an original device.

Micro SD card

The iPhone is always packed up with a fixed memory capacity like 16GB, 32GB, 64GB or 128GB. And the iPhone doesn’t support micro sd card, so you must check out whether the micro sd card slot is present on the device body or not.

If not, then maybe it can be an original iPhone.

SIM card slot

Just go ahead and check whether the device has only 1 sim card slot or more than 1 card slot. If it is having 1 SIM card slot then it may be an original iPhone.

2. Siri

On your iPhone launch SIRI, by promoting ” Hey Siri “. If Siri shows up then it’s an original iPhone. And if it is a fake one then Siri will not launch.

3. Serial Number

 Now it’s time to check the serial number of the device. Just dial this code ” *#06#* ” from you dialer or go to the Settings then General then tap on About and this will show you the serial number of the iPhone.

4. Default Applications

 Go ahead and check the default applications in your device like Settings, Calculator, Music, Photos, Compass. If any of those applications are not there is your iPhone then it is a fake device.

5. iTunes

Just connect your iPhone to a computer and run the iTunes. Generally, fake or refurbished iPhone doesn’t get recognized with iTunes. So if it is undetectable then it’s probably a fake iPhone.

Here are the steps to sync the iPhone to iTunes.

  • Open the iTunes application on your computer.
  • Connect your iPhone with your computer using the USB cable.
  • Head towards iTunes, then click on your iPhone.
  • Tap on the button “Sync” on the summary tab.
  • Click on Apply button.

6. Model Number

You can easily determine whether your iPhone is a Refurbished device or a brand new device. This method also works for the iPad.

  • Open the Setting application on your iPhone.
  • Head towards General and then open About.
  • Locate “Model” there and then read the number written under the Model. It will be something like this “MN687PP/A”.
  • Now the 1st character of the Model No – will make you know that whether the device is new or refurbished, replaced, or personalized.

M‘ signifies: The device is brand new.

F‘ signifies: The device is refurbished.

N‘ signifies: The device was replaced due to some reasons.

P‘ signifies: The device is personalized.

Other Tips

  • While purchasing the device do ask about the warranty as the fake iPhone sellers don’t give any warranty.
  • If the selling price is very cheaper than the actual price then maybe that device can be a clone or a refurbished device so make sure to pay attention towards the device price.
