Hard Drive Partition on Windows 10 – Today we are going to discuss creating a partition in hard-drive using Windows. Like – How to create a partition in the hard drive, how to make a partition on Windows etc. Creating partitions for your operating system is easy and useful for each and every user.

So why do we need to partition our hard disk drives? As there are a variety of reasons to create partitions on your hard drive. The first reason is to create a partition is to backup of your files [Pictures, Videos, Games or Documents], keeping your files organized in a separate hard drive.

You can create one, two or three hard drives from a single hard drive, as to make things easier for your own benefits.

Hard Drive Partition

The first step we need to do is to make sure that we have enough hard disk space on our drives that needs a hard-drive partition.

For the partition, you need to know about Disk management tool on the windows 10. Disk management utility is basically used for creating and formatting hard drive partition on Windows 10. With the help of Disk management utility you can –

a. Shrink & extend partition size [100 GB – 200 GB].

b. Assign letters to the hard drives partitions like [C,D,E,F,G,H].

c. Create Virtual Hard-Disks [VHDs].

As there are many ways to open the Disk management utility on Windows 10.

Method 1

a. Right click on windows 10 logo and click on RUN.

b. Write Diskmgmt.msc in Run command and press enter.

Method 2

a. Move to Cortana search near windows 10 logo and type in Admin.

b. Click on the Administrative Tool and then Computer management.

c. On the Computer, management click on Storage and then Disk management to open Disk management utility tool.

At the top here we see all our drives are inserted into our PC. You can now see your one default drive named [C:] which you are currently trying to partition with. So what we need to do here is Right click on your drive and press Shrink Volume.

It will take some time to configure and then another screen appears with the options. Here you need to Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB: [Mega Byte].

For 100GB Hard Drive = 100 X 1024 = 102400 MB

After entering the amount of MegaByte, just press Shrink to create your first partition of your PC hard drive. After that, you can see a little block that says Unallocated space.

Right click on it and press New Simple Volume to configure your new hard drive. On to the wizard just press next [2] and assign a drive letter.

You can choose any letter from that list. Once you have done that, just press next and Format this volume with this following settings.

Here you can select NTFS or FAT32 file system. In the volume label, you may call your drive whatever you like to assign with any name. Check to perform a quick Format for creating a quick Format of your drive. Go ahead and press next, then you will be presented with a message everything you just did.

Finally press Finish button. Now you can see an active partition of you drive with the drive letter you just named. Go to the PC as to check your new hard drive partition, which you named.

If you are not satisfied with your current hard-drive partition. You can also delete that partition by pressing Right click on the new partition you just created and then click Delete volume.

It will then take back you to the Unallocated space. Finally Right click on the active partition which is [C:] and press Extend Volume. Press next with the selected disk with MegaByte, just press next and Finish.

You will see that hard drive partition is merged in drive [C:] again back.
